Final Warning

I'm not sure how Google Ads work, but I assume that their systems analyse the tags for clues as to what the blog is all about, and deliver up ads accordingly. So the box on the bottom right of your screen has over the past few months played host to all manner of unlikely outfits, hopeful of your click. There have been ads for jihadist training courses, alternative healing centres, political biographies and erotic videos. And just this morning I noticed it was warning us all about the end of the world.

That's right. As if we didn't have enough to worry about already, what with obesity epidemics, the baleful influence of Pluto and the escalating price of oil, it turns out that the world is set to end sometime in 2008. Again.

The source of this latest doomsday scenario is one Ronald Weinland, who represents an outfit calling itself the Church of God (though I doubt it has a great many members) and is promoting his message in a downloadable book entitled 2008 - God's Final Witness. Read it if you dare. As the link proclaims

Unlike The Da Vinci Code or the Left Behind series, which are fiction, 2008-God's Final Witness is true and reveals hidden secrets that man has not been able to uncover for thousands of years. Of the three major religions of the world who claim belief in the God of Abraham (Islam, Judaism and Christianity), no one has ever known the prophecies that are revealed in this book, which are beginning to unfold even now.

According to Weinland's website, the Church of God had not been accustomed to having a prophet for nearly 1900 years, until God made him a prophet in 1997. Not since John of Patmos penned that strange acid-trip known as the Book of Revelation has God been quite so generous with his information:

From now until the latter part of 2008, many prophecies are going to begin to be fulfilled, especially the Seven Thunders of the Book of Revelation, which the apostle John saw but was restricted from recording. Those thunders are revealed in this book, as well as detailed accounts of the final three and one-half years of man’s self-rule on earth, which are recorded in the account of the Seventh Seal of Revelation.

Some of these prophecies concern the demise of the United States over the next two years, which will be followed by man’s final world war. This last war will be the result of clashing religions and the governments they sway. Billions will die! This time will far exceed even the very worst times in all human history.

As these events unfold, the world will increasingly become aware of the authenticity of the words in this book and realize that Ronald Weinland has been sent by God as His end-time prophet.

According to Ronald, the past year,

has been marking a conclusion to mankind being allowed to freely follow the path of his own choosing. We are about to enter the period when God begins to bring a full end to man’s self-rule. The fulfillment to end-time prophetic events is about to be thrust upon the whole world, and man’s way, as well as Satan’s, is about to begin to be shut down!

Beginning in February, those thunders will increase dramatically, and by April this world will begin to be shaken to its foundations.

Nevertheless, Weinland is planning a busy interview schedule for the spring, by which time we'll presumably all be dodging the brimstone:

Once these end-time events begin to unfold, radio and T.V. will seek interviews in an increasing manner. They will come to us! When this happens, God will use this to begin opening up the minds of thousands to begin seeing what is true and what has been false over the past 6,000 years.

Last August, apparently, Weinland appeared on the James Whale show on TalkSport. It was not, as might be imagined, a meeting of minds. As Weinland himself commented on his own blog,

As with so many interviews, it reflects the indifference and subtle sarcasm that accompanies the kind of skepticism this world holds toward God and prophecy He reveals to mankind about the end-time judgment that is now coming. That is understandable, but it is not excusable, and that is the very reason God is going to allow mankind to suffer from his own arrogance and pride, as there is not other way to humble people with such deeply infested self-will and egotistical pride.

So we're all going to Hell. Thanks a lot for that, James Whale.
