Ten Excellent Blogs
The Heresiarch is delighted to be on the receiving end of an "Excellent blog award" meme, and even more gratified to be nominated by Shane Richmond from the Telegraph. The idea was begun as what may have been a piece of inspired self promotion by Shannon from "The Mommy Project". She says:
I started this award because I have greatly enjoyed blogging these last few months. I have received many heartwarming comments, I’ve read touching stories, and I’ve laughed at jokes you’ve written. I love being a part of the blogging community and part of all the friendships that I’ve formed so I wanted to give a blog award for all of you out there that have Excellent Blogs.
Each recipient is then supposed to nominate ten other "excellent blogs". Thus the award spreads exponentially. The day may come - and soon - when virtually every blog in the world is an "excellent blog". It may even end up as a Technorati-style ranking system. For the moment, though, I feel vaguely honoured.
Here are my ten excellent blogs:
The Devil's Kitchen
Outspoken, uncompromising, foul-mouthed, slightly deranged. It may leave you in a state of incoherent anger, but it'll certainly cheer you up.
Pharyngula
Science and scepticism from biologist PZ Myers. A man who makes Richard Dawkins look like he's not trying.
A Whore in the Temple of Reason
Well-argued rationality and scepticism with a fragrant undertow of titillation. What could be nicer?
Letters from a Tory
Witty, erudite, original, sometimes news-breaking.
Samizdata
What's really going on, and why.
Counterknowledge
Damian Thompson and his minions expose nonsense and wishful-thinking
A Don's Life
Cambridge classics professor Mary Beard shows how the ancient world is still relevant, and how it offers striking parallels with our own.
Cult Case
Entertaining review of contemporary arts
Daniel Hannan MEP
Wrecking the EU monster from the inside. We hope.
Stumbling and Mumbling
Informed insight into politics and economics from Chris Dillow, author of The End of Politics.
