Sarah's People

Alistair Darling's mini-budget is hard to avoid today, and the size of the projected deficit is just too scary. So here's something to take your mind off it: an ad that was splashed across the US networks by a group calling itself Our Country Deserves Better PAC. Just some ordinary folks who want to tell the world how much they love Sarah Palin. Sweet.

That's just creepy. If I was SP, I would get an injunction against those people coming within 200 yards of me...

They're all as Democrat as feck, aren't they? Or have I just reached the stage where I suspect everything's a piss-take?

Indeed it does, it's just that the well-meaning folks assembled for this ad have no idea what it takes to run a country as complex as the USA and what an utter disaster a person like Palin would be. It takes more than being God-Fearing and above average looking.

WHY dont you say what you are thinking?

You hate her (and thats what it is hate) becasue she kept her downs child, when you think the right thing to do was to abort it. She is the living embodiment of ideals you regard as immoral.

You just cant bring yourself to admit it?

That's a very strange theory, PB. I would imagine that for most people - certainly for me - Palin's decision to carry a Down's child is one of the more admirable things about her. You'd have to be a pretty hard-core eugenicist to believe people had a duty to abort such a child. Of course, her wish to force her personal moral views on others is rather more questionable.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Thank you for putting more clearly than I could have.

You see, for you the important quality of a national leader is their personal life -- in this case you cite Palin's record as a mother.

I dare say Palin is a good mother (I don't know, because I don't know her personally). But it takes more than vthat to run a country. Running a country is a DIFFICULT JOB, that requires a good deal of INTELLIGENCE and knowledge.

I hear that most of Obama's team graduates from Yale or Harvard -- this doesn't guarantee they'll do well, but it's a good sign.
Not sure if Palin or Darling scare me more right now.

Passer By, I think that was a bit of a hasty post. I'm an Anglican priest and I happen to think abortion is always a terrible thing. The news that more babies with Down's are being born in Britain because parents are more confident they will have a decent life, and therefore don't abort, is wonderful, on every level. If I don't want Sarah Palin to have a hand in running the most powerful state in the world, it's because she doesn't seem to have the qualities necessary. It's tragic that US politicians, particularly Republicans, seem to have got into the habit of pretending to be stupider than they are to get elected: homespun folksiness should not be a public virtue, and making it one debases the polity. And a lot of the time it IS a pretence - the other day I heard that Mr Reagan was fond of quoting obscure 19th-century French free-market economists; strictly in private, of course, otherwise the voters might have thought he had a brain, and feel an unreasoning sense of hostility. Clearly John McCain didn't feel he could pretend to be quite stupid enough, so Mrs Palin was drafted in. That's the problem with her.

All hail to the philosopher kings, we are saved through our definitive knowledge.

Ill tell you when it comes to a toss up of who to fear, knowledge fundamentalists have a big lead over christian fundamentalists.

The reason for this is simple, intelligent people think they can control things more than people who think things are down to luck or faith.
